1) Cas is still in his body with Lucifer and trying to regain control at times so that we can still see Cas at times and have a possible ending where he breaks free (ala Swan Song) and is the one to defeat Amara cuz he was the one who had it in him all along (aka “the light”)

2) Cas is trapped in the cage and Dean puts all his focus on rescuing him (aka why Rowena HAD to be killed in this ep), and we get a beautiful parallel to Lucifer Rising and you betcha that Dean would fucking raise Cas and tell him “I raised you from perdition” with a damn smirk on his face
